A private car with driver covers the 359 km from central Phnom Penh to Sen Monorom in about six and a half hours plus stops, or 384 km from Techo International Airport. You leave when you want and are dropped at your accommodation. It is quoted per vehicle, so it is good value for two to four people; a stop in Kratie splits it into two days.

Direct or via Kratie
Direct: leave Phnom Penh around 7:30, lunch on the way, and arrive in Sen Monorom mid-afternoon. Good when your time is short.
Via Kratie: about 253 km to Kratie for an afternoon with the Mekong dolphins and a night by the river, then about 207 km to Sen Monorom the next morning. Better for most trips, and the way we usually suggest.

Is a shared van cheaper?
Yes. Shared vans cost around €11 to 13 per seat according to one timetable listing, but take 6 to 8.5 hours with delays reported, leave from company offices and have little luggage space.
