FAQ

Questions travelers ask

About Cambodia Path

What is Cambodia Path?

A small trip-planning service for Mondulkiri, Keo Seima, Kratie, the Cardamom Mountains and Ratanakiri, run from Europe. We plan routes, check providers for your dates and write proposals that name who delivers each part.

Are you a tour operator?

No. We do not run tours or employ guides or drivers. Independent providers deliver each part of the trip, and your proposal names them.

Do you take bookings and payments?

Not yet. At present your proposal lists each provider with how to book and pay them directly. When we start taking bookings ourselves, we will say so on the How it works page first.

How quickly do you reply?

We aim to reply by email within two working days.

What does it cost?

At present, planning and proposals are free.

Planning the trip

How many days do I need for Mondulkiri?

At least four days from Phnom Penh: a day up, two wildlife days, a day back. Five or six is more comfortable.

Can I visit without riding a motorbike?

Yes. The elephant sanctuary and the Jahoo gibbon trek collect guests in Sen Monorom, and a car with a driver covers the rest.

When is the best time to go?

November to April, the dry season. December to February is coolest. The wet season works with a buffer day.

Can I combine this with Angkor?

Yes. With 10 days, add either Mondulkiri or the Cardamoms to Siem Reap; with 14 days you can do Angkor, Kratie and Mondulkiri at an easy pace.

Wildlife and communities

Do you offer elephant riding or bathing?

No. We only propose elephant visits whose published rules exclude riding, bathing with visitors and feeding for show.

Are wildlife sightings guaranteed?

No. We choose experiences with good realistic chances and tell you honestly what to expect.

Does my trip benefit local communities?

Where a provider explains how visitor money reaches the community, we tell you. We do not claim a benefit that has not been explained.

Safety and practicalities

Is it safe given the Thai border situation?

Official advice warns against travel within 20 km of the Thai land border. Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri and Kratie are far from it, and Chi Phat and the Cardamom eco-lodge are outside the zone. Check current advice before you travel.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, including medical evacuation. Some providers, such as the Elephant Valley Project, require it.

Is there a 24-hour emergency line?

No. Your proposal lists each provider’s contacts for the trip, and we answer email in working hours. In an emergency, contact local emergency services, your insurer and your embassy.
