On request: we confirm a local operator and price for your dates

In short

Kratie is the natural overnight stop between Phnom Penh and Mondulkiri or Ratanakiri. In the afternoon a small boat takes you out at the Kampi pool, about 16 km north of town, where critically endangered Irrawaddy dolphins feed; trips last roughly an hour. We arrange the boat, transport and a riverside room for your date.

Price and booking

PriceQuoted for your dateBoat prices in published sources are old (around US$9 per person in 2012), so we confirm current prices locally.

How it fits

Leave Phnom Penh in the morning for the roughly 253 km drive to Kratie, check in by the river and go out to Kampi in the afternoon. Watch the sunset over the Mekong, then continue the next morning to Sen Monorom (about 207 km) or Banlung (about 244 km). It turns one very long road day into two easy ones.

Why on request

Boats at Kampi are run locally and prices in published sources are out of date. For each enquiry we confirm a boat, the price and a room, and choose operators that keep a respectful distance from the dolphins.

What we confirm before you book

  • Boat availability and current price
  • That operators approach slowly, cut engines and keep their distance
  • Accommodation for your date

Questions travelers ask

Will I see dolphins?

Most boat trips at Kampi see some dolphins, but sightings are never guaranteed. The population is tiny: about 114 in the Cambodian Mekong according to officials in March 2026.
