The shape of the day
Morning: a pepper farm. Kampot pepper is grown on small farms around Kampot and Kep. Larger farms such as La Plantation welcome visitors and, according to several travel guides, run free guided tours of the vines and drying process, with a shop at the end.
Lunch: the Kep crab market. Fishers bring the catch in, and the restaurants along the water cook it. Midday is lively; choice thins out later in the afternoon.
Afternoon: Bokor or Kep National Park. Bokor mountain, just under an hour’s drive from Kampot, has wide views over the coast and the remains of an old French hill station; it is cooler and often misty. The alternative is Kep National Park, with a forest loop of about two hours and views over the islands, or a short boat to Rabbit Island.
Why on request
The ingredients are easy to find; what makes the day work is a good driver-guide and the right order for the weather and your base. For each enquiry we confirm the driver-guide and vehicle and give you a total price before anything is booked.
What to bring
- A warm layer for Bokor, which is cooler and can be misty
- Sun protection and walking shoes for Kep National Park
What we confirm before you book

- Road and weather conditions for Bokor
Questions travelers ask
Kampot or Kep as a base?
Kampot has more places to stay and eat along the river and is closer to Bokor; Kep is quieter, by the sea and next to the crab market. Many travelers stay in one and visit the other by road, about 25 km.
Is the train an option?
A train runs between Phnom Penh and Kampot (around 3 hours 40 minutes according to booking sites), and on to Kep. Traveler reports in 2026 mention delays, so leave slack.
